How Many Intersections with Traffic Lights Are There on Bainbridge Island?

There are six intersections with traffic lights on Bainbridge Island.

Bainbridge Island is a charming and picturesque destination known for its natural beauty and small-town feel.

Despite its proximity to a major metropolitan area—only 8 miles from Seattle as the crow flies— Bainbridge Island retains a distinctly rural character. One measure of this is the fact that there are only six intersections with traffic lights (those with red, yellow, and green signals) on the entire island.

Can you think of all six?

As you might guess, all six traffic lights are along the route from the ferry to the north end of the island. While some of these intersections are quite busy during peak ferry season, managing the flow of automobiles on and off the boats, overall the lack of traffic lights outside the main 305 corridor contributes to the island’s pastoral feel.

Let’s take a look at the six traffic-light intersections on Bainbridge Island, starting at the ferry terminal and heading north.

Honorable Mention: Fletcher Bay Road and New Brooklyn Road

Fletcher Bay Road and New Brooklyn Road

Although not technically a full traffic light, a flashing single red light is suspended above the intersection of New Brooklyn Road and Fletcher Bay Road (which turns into Miller Road north of New Brooklyn). This intersection is also governed by four-way stop signs so you’d be forgiven for never noticing the seemingly superfluous red flashing light.

For Completeness: Blakely Ave and Bucklin Hill Road

Blakely Ave and Bucklin Hill Road

At the T-intersection of Blakely Avenue and Bucklin Hill Road is another suspended single flashing light. It flashes yellow in the north- and southbound directions of Blakely Avenue and Bucklin Hill Road and flashes red (also with a stop sign) on the east-west Bucklin Hill Road.
